Hi, I’m Simone Crowe (she/hers). I have been a member of the Portland community since 2013. I have over a decade of experience working at nonprofits for social and environmental justice, and I currently consult at the national, state, and local levels for disaster resilience. I also just graduated from massage therapy and bodywork school, and will be launching my own business soon.
In 2019, I helped implement climate justice curriculum in Portland Public Schools. I taught high schoolers about the Jordan Cove LNG Pipeline. I was a Teacher’s Assistant to college students at Pacific Northwest College of Art, and founded their Climate Justice Club with college students. I have a year-and-a-half year old nephew who lives in the area. Someday soon, I hope to have my own kids who will be students in PPS.

My
Values
Authenticity
I show up as myself, with my breadth of experiences, relationships, and ideas. I am not afraid to speak my mind, but will listen and engage in friendly debate. I stick to my guns, but am open to compromise when it’s right.
Hard work
I will prioritize this position, and work hard on behalf of kids, families, and teachers. I am responsible, reliable, and dedicated.
Justice
I believe that while there’s a right and a wrong, there’s usually nuance involved. I stick to my values, and will stand up for what’s right. This includes paying teachers their worth, fighting on behalf of kids’ education, health, and extracurricular activities. I believe in critical race theory, racial justice, and see schools as places ripe to become community resilience hubs, and community centers. When a community has a strong, justice-oriented school, a community can thrive.
Community Listening
With a background in community-engaged policy design and an MFA in Collaborative Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art, I know how to engage most-impacted communities in design and decision-making. I will always listen to parents, kids, and teachers, and will follow the lead of my community, because they often know what’s best. I believe in the collective wisdom of a community, and am humble enough to listen and then act.
